from here to serenity - by Norman Dimock
Sensei showed us how to replace the tsuba,
the guard on the sword.
Some students got fancy new ones.
They brought little hammers.

If the subject
is focused
the portrait draws us in

This isn’t a person,
just some shades and colours.
See an image.
Take it to represent something else.

Break the world into a million things.
Spend our lives reconnecting them.
Reduce the realism in an image.
Make it less a portrait of the past;
more abstract but more real
in itself, and timeless.

There is a path from one realm to the other,
from Time-bound to Eternal.

It can be found and followed
in the domain of still photography.
Is it too much to hope
it can be found and followed
in any dimension of life?

The way is letting pre-conceptions go.

Eternal is not Forever.
It is Outside of Time.

Sometimes we know what we talk about.
Other times we talk about it.
